8/12/16 Hello Victoria!

Today we escaped to reality.

Leaving the small island for the big was difficult. Many thanks to our hosts, Miro and Hiro, were followed by a trip to the farm where we bid farewell to Dani and Miri and their beautiful family. No fare needed for our return ferry trip. When you buy a ticket to the island it covers the fact that eventually you will leave.

The day was heating up as we boarded, but there was a welcome breeze from the motion of the boat. Off-loaded in Crofton, we hit the road and it felt wonderful to be riding. Rascal stretched her wings and we flew again. But our flight was short lived. As we drew closer to Victoria, the traffic and the temperature heated up. Rascal panted as we waited through a myriad of traffic lights. Then Jules found another route along the water. Instant relief drifted from the cool ocean and an open road curled along the coast.

Searching for lodging on our GPS, we got bamboozled by Siri and went on several wild goose chases that sucked us into the snarl of Victoria. After some dead ends we found an ideal hotel, slightly off the beaten track, where we honkered down for the night and had dinner delivered.

We have landed in the heart of a city. Sirens wail through the night and angry drivers blast their horns. Quiet together we block out the urbanity and float back to the halcyon days that have gone before. Tomorrow we will face the music and find out what this city is all about, but for tonight we will make our own melody.
